Rocky Horror Show-Live On Stage

Takes a Steampunk Twist-at the Henry Strater Theatre October 26th, 27th & 31st

Durango, CO – For the fifth year running, the Henry Strater Theatre presents Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show-Live On Stage, featuring an all-star local and out-of-town cast. Performances will be held October 26th (7pm & 10pm), 27th (7pm & 10pm), and 31st (8pm) at the Henry Strater Theatre inside the historic Strater Hotel in downtown Durango. The 5th anniversary production will incorporate a ‘steampunk’ twist, said Emily Flood, Stage & Front of House Manager.

“Every year, Director Jenny Fitts-Reynolds likes to add new and different elements to the show to keep it fresh and exciting,” said Ms. Flood. “This year’s ‘steampunk’ theme is a fantastical mix of Victorian style with an industrial aesthetic; it’s a sub-genre of science fiction set during a time when steam power was the predominate energy source for industrial technologies. We’re incredibly excited to have people see this year’s performance!”

The Rocky Horror Picture Show premiered in 1975 at the Westwood Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and was considered to be a flop. Since its revival in 1976 at the Waverly Theatre when Louis Farese, a kindergarten teacher from Staten Island, yelled, “Buy an umbrella…!” the Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a cult classic followed by millions of fans around the world. 2012 is the 37th year of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Following tradition, audience members are encouraged to dress as their favorite Rocky Horror character and to purchase tickets early, as shows usually sell out. Tickets are $18 for students (must present a student ID), $20 for adults prior to the show, and $25 for adults at the door. Goodie bags will be available for purchase for $5, and filled with typical Rocky Horror items. Guests are asked to not throw anything at the stage for safety reasons, nor to bring their own Rocky Horror props to throw.
