San Juan Symphony continues 2013-14 Season
on Feb. 15 & 16 in Farmington & Durango
Durango, CO – The San Juan Symphony will present the third concert of the 2013-14 season on Saturday, February 15 in Farmington and Sunday, February 16 in Durango. Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Beyond will feature Israeli flute soloist Yossi Arnheim performing Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2, and the world premiere performance of a new piece, Camping, by Liam Ramsey-White, a young composer from Durango. Also on the program, the symphony will perform Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. The concert will feature Farmington and Durango music students playing Side-by-Side orchestra members on one selection.
Music Director Arthur Post will preview the concert on Wednesday, February 12 at 6 pm at the Open Shutter Gallery in downtown Durango. The pre-concert talk is free and open to the public.
Yossi Arnheim is Principal Flutist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and head of the wind programs at the Jerusalem Music Center. He is a frequent soloist with the Israel Philharmonic and other orchestras in Israel, and has performed as a soloist and recitalist in the USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic and the Ukraine.
Mr. Arnheim also gives Master Classes for flute players all around the globe, and his career as an active chamber musician includes performances with world renowned artists. His 12 released recordings for international CD labels also feature a variety of styles, from Baroque to World Music. Yossi Arnheim teaches at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music and at the Jerusalem Academy of Music.
Liam Ramsey-White (b. 1996) is originally from Durango, CO where he attended Park Elementary School until the end of fourth grade (2007). At age six he began studying violin in the Suzuki method with Howard Chrisman in Farmington, NM and continued his studies with Tennille Taylor. He performed in the San Juan Symphony Side-by-Side with Ms. Taylor twice during his third and fourth grade years. He was also selected to perform both as a soloist and in an ensemble for the San Juan College Young Artist Recital.
Currently, Liam is an eleventh grade orchestra major at the Denver School of the Arts (DSA) where he is a member of the High School String Orchestra, the Vanguard chamber ensemble and the DSA String Quartet. He studies with Erik Peterson of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.
