San Juan Symphony to Present “Nature” Concert on April 21 & 22
Durango, CO – The San Juan Symphony will conclude its 2011-12 Season of Appreciation with concerts at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 21 and at Henderson Hall at San Juan College in Farmington at 3 pm on Sunday, April 22. The “Nature” concert will welcome springtime with music filled with the sounds and feelings of outdoor frolicking. It will feature young prizewinning pianist Zhu Wang from Shanghai.
Selections on the program will include Delius’ On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.
Music Director Arthur Post will preview the concert on Wednesday, April 18 at 6 pm at the Durango Arts Center. The pre-concert talk is free and open to the public.
Zhu Wang started learning piano at the age of five. He is currently a student of the Middle School affiliated with Shanghai Conservatory of Music, studying with Professor Zhe Tang. He has been awarded many prizes including special prizes for the best Mazurka, Waltz and Preludes performance in the Fifth International Chopin Young Artist Piano Competition, First Prize in the 5th Chinese National Youth Piano Competition China eastern district, First Prize in Professional Children’s Group and Chopin Piano Group in the 3rd Asia Youth Piano Competition, and First Prize in the Golden Melody Piano Competition. In 2011, as the youngest competitor, Zhu won the First Prize in the Hilton Head International Young Artist Piano Competition. He will be performing the sublime Mozart concerto.
