San Juan Symphony to Present “Silver Jubilee” on November 20 & 21

The San Juan Symphony will present its second concert of the 2010-11 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, November 20 at 7:30 pm at Henderson Performance Hall in Farmington, NM and on Sunday, November 21 at 3 pm at the Community Concert Hall in Durango, CO.  Silver Jubilee will duplicate the programming of the November 1986 concert when the San Juan Symphony in Farmington and the Durango Civic Symphony joined together for the first time under the direction of Jan Roshong.    Selections on the program include Hungarian March by Berlioz, Beethoven’s elegant and profound Fourth Piano Concerto and Mendelssohn’s capricious Violin Concerto.  The orchestra will be joined by superlative husband and wife soloists, Jennifer Koh on violin and Benjamin Hochman on piano.  A new featured piece on the program will be Song of the Mountain Poets, the premiere of a commissioned piece to celebrate the anniversary season by Farmington native Sam Cardon.  The concert will also feature accomplished high school musicians playing Side-by-Side orchestra musicians on one selection.  The Silver Jubilee concert sponsor, First National Bank of Durango, has been a continuous supporter of the San Juan Symphony for its entire 25 years.   Music Director Arthur Post will give a pre-concert talk as part of the series Wednesdays at 6 – Musically Speaking at the DurangoArtsCenter at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17.  The pre-concert talk is free and the public is invited to attend.   For tickets for the Farmington performance, please call Henderson Performance Hall at 505-566-3430.  For tickets to the Durango performance, please call the Community Concert Hall Box Office in Durango at 970-247-7657.   For more information, please visit www.sanjuansymphony.org.
