Summer concert series in Durango’s Buckley Park returns
Community Concert Hall and Alpine Bank team up for FREE Thursday evening shows
Durango, CO- Given the success of the inaugural 2012 series, Alpine Bank of Durango and the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College have once again teamed up to present a special free summer concert series in Durango’s Buckley Park.
“Alpine Bank and Your Community Concert Hall present Concerts in the Park” on four consecutive Thursdays: July 11, 18 and 25 and August 1, 2013, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Buckley Park is located in the 1200 block of Main Ave. (between 12th and 13th Streets) on the north end of Durango’s historic downtown.
“We truly enjoy making live music more accessible to a broader audience,” said Charles Leslie, Concert Hall director. “It was so much fun last year to see music lovers of all ages and walks of life come out and enjoy a casual evening of music in the park. With the support of Alpine Bank, we are able to stage these four family-friendly evenings free of charge.”
The 2013 scheduled line-up is:
§ July 11 – Pagosa Springs-based rock band Elder Grown
§ July 18 – Funky, high-energy jam rock band Spafford from Prescott, Ariz.
§ July 25 – The Durango Jazz Septet followed by Durango’s favorite gypsy band, Carute Roma
§ Aug. 1 – Classic rock from Durango’s The Assortment, featuring Patrick Garland on sax, followed by Durango’s own Jazz Is
“When I attended the concerts in the park last year, they were just what I had envisioned they could be,” said Beth Drum, Alpine Bank vice president. “Everybody was relaxed; enjoying the music, chatting with friends… little children were dancing… It’s such a nice way to spend an early summer evening.”
For 2013 Alpine Bank will also sponsor a hot dog barbecue, with proceeds from sales at the grill benefitting a different community organization each week. More information will be available in coming weeks.
The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
