The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College

welcomes roots-folk, singer-songwriter Ruth Moody, Mar. 28

Durango, CO – Ruth Moody, Canadian roots-folk, singer-songwriter, comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College with The Ruth Moody Band, Thursday, Mar. 28, 2013, 7:30 p.m.

Described as “musically enticing as a ripe, red pomegranate,” Moody is a two-time Juno Award winner and founding member of the internationally renowned Canadian folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, as well as former lead singer of the Canadian roots band Scruj MacDuhk.
Perhaps best known for her work with The Wailin’ Jennys, Moody is lauded as an artist of exceptional depth and grace in her own right and said to perform with an intimacy and honesty that is uniquely her own. Critics have praised her ethereal vocals, impressive multi-instrumentalism (guitar, banjo, accordion, piano, and bodhrán), and masterful songwriting.

In 2010 Moody, who is a classically trained vocalist and pianist, released her highly-anticipated solo album, The Garden to positive reviews, and currently she is recording her follow-up solo album to be released in 2013. She is also a favorite on National Public Radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Moody has been recognized by the USA Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition for several of her compositions, including “One Voice,” which has become a signature song for The Wailin’ Jennys and been covered by numerous artists across the country. She was showcased at South by Southwest in Austin, Tex., toured as the featured guest with “A Christmas Celtic Sojourn” in New England and toured through the United Kingdom and Ireland with the prestigious Transatlantic Sessions as part of Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Scotland.

Moody’s touring group, The Ruth Moody Band, features Adam Dobres (electric guitar), Adrian Dolan (strings, mandolin, accordion) and Sam Howard (bass, vocals).
