The Infamous Stringdusters’ 2013 Ski Tour comes to the Community Concert Hall at For Lewis College Feb. 13
Durango, CO – The Infamous Stringdusters bring the band’s 2013 Ski Tour to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. The show opens at 7 p.m. with special guests the Jon Stickley Trio and local bluegrass favorites Waiting on Trial.
Writes Telluride Inside, “[the Infamous Stringdusters] propel the legacy of bluegrass and string band music into the future with a stunning blend of musical virtuosity and fresh energy.”
The “live” Stringdusters’ experience is revered as “anti-formulaic, groove-friendly and mind-expanding – not your granddaddy’s bluegrass, unless your granddaddy was Jerry Garcia.” Extended improvisation makes every performance unique.
Based in Charlottesville, Va., (the musical oasis pioneered by the Dave Matthews Band), the Infamous Stringdusters consists of five unique, professional players who are steeped in the tradition of bluegrass vocal harmony as well as the progressive edge of instrumental music. The members’ backgrounds range from training in classical music and jazz, to hard rock shows, to stints backing country legends and high lonesome heroes.
The band includes Andy Falco (guitar), Andy Hall (dobro), Chris Pandolfi (banjo), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), and Travis Book (upright bass) – consummate pickers as well as skilled songwriters with a repertoire that touches on masters from Jimmy Martin to John Hartford, though the Stringdusters’ strength lies in the band’s original compositions.
The Stringdusters’ latest album is Silver Sky, released in March 2012. It has recently been re-released on the High Country label as the special Silver Sky Deluxe Edition and includes a previously unreleased bonus track, “He’s Gone,” and the bonus live album, We’ll Do It Live.

A flat-picking guitarist from Asheville, N.C., Jon Stickley, with his John Stickley Trio, leans toward a relaxed approach to performances, exploring the song, in the moment. The trio showcases original material as well as interpretations of bluegrass and jazz music.
Noted Dan Miller of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, of Stickley’s release Lions, “If you want to hear some great old guitars played expertly, I highly recommend Lions.”

What began as a group of college buddies rocking out at legendary house parties in Durango, Waiting on Trial has become one of Colorado’s revered up-and-coming bluegrass bands. With a unique and energetic sound that has drawn inspiration from non-traditional sources such as The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Red Hot Chili Peppers and John Prine, Waiting on Trial has been called by Andy Thorn of Leftover Salmon, “…the kind of band that can get huge.”

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
