The Infamous Stringdusters return to the Community Concert Hall Mar. 31

Local bluegrass band Waiting on Trial to open the show

DURANGO, Colo. – Bluegrass returns to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College with The Infamous Stringdusters set to perform Thursday, Mar. 31, 2011, 7:30 p.m. Local bluegrass band Waiting on Trial opens the show.

The “live” Stringdusters’ experience is revered as “anti-formulaic, groove-friendly and mind-expanding – not your granddaddy’s bluegrass, unless your granddaddy was Jerry Garcia.”

While critics have often declared The Infamous Stringdusters as newgrass torchbearers, the band is actually a broad melting pot of American music. The backgrounds of band members range from training in classical and jazz, to hard rock, to stints backing country legends and high lonesome heroes.

Based in Nashville, Tenn., the band consists of six professional players – Andy Falco (guitar), Andy Hall (dobro), Chris Pandolfi (banjo), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), Jesse Cobb (mandolin) and Travis Book (upright bass). All are steeped in the tradition of bluegrass vocal harmony as well as the progressive edge of instrumental music, and their virtuosity has enabled them to take acoustic music to a completely new level. With a repertoire that touches on masters from Jimmy Martin to John Hartford, The Stringdusters’ strength lies in their original compositions.

The band’s 2007 debut release “Fork in the Road” was named Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. The title track received the IBMA Song of the Year, with the band itself honored as Best Emerging Artist.

In April 2010 The Stringdusters released its third and most ambitious album, “Things That Fly,” which has been described as “expansive, imaginatively textured and energized by collaboration through and through.” The instrumental “Magic #9” featured on the album earned The Stringdusters its first Grammy nomination in the Best Country Instrumental Performance category.

Waiting On Trial, The Stringdusters’ special guest at the Community Concert Hall, is a high energy, Durango-based bluegrass quintet known for its original compositions. Band members are Eric Elliot (vocals, mandolin, fiddle), Robin Davis (fiddle, vocals), Ryan Zemis (upright bass), Chris Lane (banjo, vocals) and Ryan Doty (guitar, vocals) who formed the band in 2007.

Tickets for Infamous Stringdusters, with special guest Waiting on Trial – $20/$30 – are available on-line at www.durangoconcerts.com or by calling 970.247.7657, or at the Ticket Office in Downtown Durango at 7th and Main Ave. All sales final.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m., with doors to the Concert Hall and concessions, serving beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 6:30 p.m.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and the city of Durango, as well as through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
