Bringing Detroit’s white-porcelain metal hamburger joints to Durango is what Dan and Lindsay Gearig had in mind while opening The Original Famburger. The goal is to serve fast and affordable smashburgers, coney dogs, onion rings, shakes, floats, fries and ice cream as well as cater to gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and dairy free patrons. They start by sourcing non-frozen meat and other ingredients to create an actual “happy meal”. With a walk-up window for outdoor seating, you can enjoy the sunny days or sit at the inside counter to enjoy watching the magic happen.
This is not the Gearig’s first restaurant; the couple started their restaurant career in the Detroit food truck scene and then created Switchback Tacos when they moved to Durango. Switchback Tacos, located on Main Avenue, serves Mexican inspired street food. Their menu features elote, queso dip, quesadillas, tacos, salads, and much more. The same gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, fast, affordable, and ethical options that started here are being carried on in their next adventure.
