The Second City: Laughing Matters comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College April 13

Durango, CO – The touring company from Chicago’s legendary sketch comedy theatre The Second City, which spawned comedic greats such as Tina Fey and John Belushi, will present The Second City: Laughing Matters at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Saturday, April 13, 7:30 p.m.

The Second City, which has brought its own special brand of comedy to the stage for more than 50 years, is a self-proclaimed “mind explosion of political and social satire,” with a troupe that mines comedic gold from the day’s headlines and the worlds of politics, entertainment and media.

The Second City was launched in Chicago’s Old Town Neighborhood in 1959, and evolved out of the Compass Players, a 1950s cabaret revue show organized by students at the University of Chicago. Though the style of comedy has evolved over the years, the format has remained consistent. Second City shows feature a mix of semi-improvised and scripted scenes, including new improve material developed based on audience suggestions.
In addition to Fey and Belushi, The Second City was once the second home to today’s celebrated geniuses of humor, including Dan Aykroyd, Alan Arkin, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrell and Mike Myers.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
