The Wailers, with special guest Tomorrows Bad Seed, added to Community Concert Hall Winter/Spring Performing Arts Series
DURANGO, Colo. – Reggae will come to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, as The Wailers and special guest Tomorrows Bad Seed have been added to the Winter/Spring Performing Arts Series. Tickets for the Jan. 28, 2011, 7 p.m. show go on sale Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at 9 a.m.
Often considered the greatest living advocates of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, The Wailers were originally formed in 1969 when the late reggae icon Bob Marley with Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh recruited the Barrett brothers – bassist Aston and drummer Carly – to record what would become a variety of legendary records. Inspired by Rastafarian beliefs and an ambition to reach an international audience, these musicians pioneered roots rock reggae.
Today the band’s anchor is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies. The authenticity he brings to the Wailers’ sound is indisputable, and today’s line-up combines his old school know-how with lead vocals from one of Jamaica’s most exciting new singers: Koolant. Koolant offers his own personal interpretation of Marley’s songs, revitalizing them for young and old alike.
Opening the show for The Wailers is Tomorrows Bad Seeds, the alternative roots reggae band that has established itself as one of Southern California’s most viable and relevant bands of today. Tomorrows Bad Seeds’ live show is said to provide a high-energy mix of rock, soul, pop, punk, reggae and hip-hop.
Tickets for The Wailers, with special guest Tomorrows Bad Seed – $30 for Orchestra and Balcony, $40 for Plaza – are available on the web at www.durangoconcerts.com, by phone at 970.247.7657, or in person at the Ticket Office in Downtown Durango at 7th and Main Ave. All sales final.
The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and the city of Durango, as well as through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
