Sidewalk Vending Days next week:
Merchants, take advantage of the City’s designated Sidewalk Vending Days – May 8-10 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Mother’s Day Weekend. The Vending Days are designed to assist merchants with traffic and sales in their stores.
BID recommends that you assign a staff member to your sidewalk display and engage with potential shoppers as they walk past. Plan a sidewalk display and encourage local shopping for Mother’s Day! |
Disaster drill on Thursday at airport:
The Durango-La Plata County Airport will conduct a full-scale disaster drill – a simulated aircraft accident – Thursday, April 30 beginning at 9 a.m. All Federal Aviation Administration Part 139 certified airports are required to conduct full-scale drills every three years to test airport preparedness in the event of an incident. Airport patrons and area residents may notice increased emergency vehicle traffic in addition to a small amount of smoke and fire. The exercise will not impact daily operations of the airport. The Durango Area Tourism Office is running a year-long photo contest to gather images to include in its promotional photo gallery. Get involved by helping promote the contest, entering photos or donating swag to be included in the monthly prizes. Civic Education Series continues:
Tuesday, May 5, 12:10-12:50 p.m., the Durango Public Library concludes its civic education series, “What Do We Do?” with a presentation by the Durango Airport. Learn about the individual departments (administration, aircraft rescue and firefighting, maintenance, environmental) and functions of the Durango/La Plata County Airport. San Juan National Forest preparing for fire season:
The San Juan National Forest and its partners are gearing up for what may be an active wildfire season. The aviation program includes a National Air Tanker Base and National Type 2 Helicopter, with the Forest supporting a BLM Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) Base. The Durango Interagency Dispatch Center coordinates initial attacks on wildfires, provides predictive services for fire danger, intelligence and weather, and mobilizes resources in support of wildfire, prescribed fire, law enforcement and other risk incidents.
