A Road Map to Your Financial Report
Durango, CO – The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center and Southwest Colorado Community College present a workshop entitled A Road Map to Your Financial Report.
According to the New York Times, 3 out of the top 5 reasons for business failure are associated with finances. “You cannot be in control of your business if you do not know what is going on. With bad numbers or no numbers, a company is flying blind, and it happens all of the time” (Goltz, NY Times).
This workshop focuses on an overview of the basic financial statements. You will learn how to read financial reports effectively beginning with the Balance Sheet and ending with the use of financial ratios to analyze Financial Statements.
Content includes the basics of financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and what areas signal a need for further investigation. Attendees will learn; to understand the numbers on a basic balance sheet and income statement, to understand what the bottom line means and what to look for when inconsistencies occur in the financial statements. An Overview of Cash Flow and its importance to the business and an Overview of Financial Ratios will also be discussed.
The workshop on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the Southwest Colorado Community College campus in Mancos. The workshop, in room 208, is free and is limited to the first 25 students who register.
The session will be facilitated by Dr. Liz Ross, Executive Director of the SW Colorado Small Business Development Center. Dr. Ross is a former professor and Director of the MBA Program at the School of Business, University of Alaska Fairbanks. She earned a Doctorate in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Finance and Management from Nova Southeastern University.
