Durango, CO – Durango outdoor retail store, Backcountry Experience, has been nominated for the 2011 SNEWS Retailer of the Year award. Backcountry Experience was one of only 19 outdoor shops in the nation, and one of only three in Colorado, to be nominated for the award.

SNEWS is the premier industry publication for the outdoor retail world and a sister publication of Backpacker, Climbing and Urban Climber magazines. Voting has been opened to the general public for the first time this year and votes will be accepted online at the following link:

Since Backcountry Experience’s receipt of the 2009 Best Small Business of the Year award from the Durango Chamber of Commerce, owner Ben Rockis and the BCEXP staff has made community outreach and education a high priority and integral part of ensuring the mutual success of both the shop and the community it serves.
