Brainstorm Internet nears completion of extensive server migration
Internet service provider apologizes for customer challenges during the process
Brainstorm Internet, Durango’s local, leading internet service provider, is close to completion of a migration of its servers to a more reliable and faster infrastructure designed to improve the Internet, web hosting and email experience for its customers.
“Unfortunately, the migration has not been without its challenges,” said Phil Bryson, CEO. “Not as justification, but to give some perspective of the magnitude of this project, consider the challenges faced with purchase of a new home computer and the subsequent set up and transfer of data. With this sever migration, Brainstorm has been, in effect, working with a room full of CPUs, each holding the data equivalent to 100 home computers. Specifically, we’re migrating more than 1,000 complete websites and in excess of 17,000 email addresses with more than one million email messages.”
According to Bryson, in spite of a lengthy planning process, once the migration began the evening of April 27 unanticipated challenges, which have required extended time to navigate, came into play. Customers may still be experiencing some email rejection or “bounce-back” as ISPs outside of the area have temporarily refused to recognize the new Brainstorm platform. Also, because the new platform didn’t originally mesh with the Barracuda security system, excess spam has been reported.
“We acknowledge and understand that these issues have created significant frustration and inconvenience for a great many of our customers,” said Bryson. “This is deeply troubling to us both individually and as a company, and we offer our sincerest and deepest apologies.”
On its web site, www.gobrainstorm.net, Brainstorm has highlighted some of the remaining technical challenges, including suggestions for customers to rectify some situations directly. Customers can also contact Brainstorm with any additional issues through a special Online Support Request form at http://gobrainstorm.net/contact.htm. To reach the support staff by phone, call 970.247.1442, though the potential on-hold period could remain extensive given the volume of calls surrounding the migration.
“As our tech staff is able, in between direct customer contacts, including phone calls, emails and walk-ins, we are working through audits of our services to try and proactively identify any remaining problem spots and resolve them before they might become an issue to our customers,” said Bryson. “We are confident that when all is said and done, our customers will enjoy the increased reliability and speed with all their online activities.”
Brainstorm Internet, based in Durango, Colo., at 640 Main Ave., serves more than 18,000 customers with high-speed and wireless Internet access, email and web hosting.
