Durango Markets on Abundance of “Food Junkies” – from Yeslpc.com

Town and Food Manufacturing Businesses Featured in

Latest Issue of Small Business Digest

Durango and its many food manufacturing businesses are featured in the latest issue of Small Business Digest (SBD). The online version of the publication was released this week.

Roger Zalneraitis, Executive Director of the La Plata County Economic Development Alliance was contacted by an editor of SBD last week. The editor was interested in the possible reasons why Durango has a high concentration of food and beverage manufacturers.

Through business retention visits (annual surveys of local companies) conducted by the Alliance, Zalneraitis found that several food manufacturing firms succeed here thanks to a unique blend of circumstances. Local residents have a desire to support local businesses and a curiosity to try new and great tasting products, there is a distinct collaborative support among local food and beverage companies, and tourists want to take a taste of Durango home with them.

Zalneraitis added, “Not only do tourists seek out local products as souvenirs to take back home, they also find ways to get those products offered in the local markets of their own hometowns.”

The business-related article features several of the area’s well-known companies such as Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ska Brewing, Zubberfizz, Zuke’s Pet Treats, Ricky’s Lucky Nuts, Desert Sun Coffee Roasters, and The Chip Peddlar. Also featured in the story are up and coming businesses Solay Superfood and Tailwind Nutrition; newer Durango-based companies producing vegan/health products.
