National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month is an effort organized by the snow sports industry, including the National Ski Areas Association, SnowSports Industries of America, National Ski Patrol, the Professional Ski Instructors of America/American Association of Snowboard Instructors and other resorts and organizations to get family and friends outside in the winter. The national slogan, “Humans Were Never Meant to Hibernate,” is intended to encourage children and adults to ski and snowboard as a way to get some exercise outdoors at a time when most people tend to stay inside.

Children and adults are encouraged to learn from a professional instructor. General information about getting ready for a snow sport experience is available at www.skiandsnowboardmonth.org.

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort was recognized by the National Ski Areas Association for its new, popular initiative in January 2012 to attract skiers and riders to the sport. The 2013 program expands on the first year’s offerings and provides new options, including the 1-day or 2-day program, as well as lodging discounts.

Durango Mountain Resort is recognized as a top family-friendly resort and has one of the best Ski and Ride Schools in the region.
