The Four Corner’s Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE) and Mantell-Hecathorn Builders, Inc. are teaming up through the Sustainable Building Education Program to offer a tour of an ENERGY STAR/ National Association of Home Builders Green Program-Gold Level new home under construction on Tuesday, September 7th. The home features air-tight construction, enhanced insulation, and ENERGY STAR rated appliances, lighting, whisper fans, and furnaces (96% efficient).
Mantell-Hecathorn Builders, Inc. looks forward to using this home as an educational opportunity. “We want to inspire others to build to the level of ENERGY STAR certified homes,” says Greg Mantell-Hecathorn. “It is true that energy efficiency is about decreasing your utility bills, but it is also about creating a more comfortable and better built place to live”.
Benefits of a home with the ENERGY STAR rating include lower energy costs, energy-efficient mortgage financing, better performance, comfort, improved indoor air quality, durability and higher resale values.
4CORE manages the Sustainable Building Education program to provide learning opportunities for realtors, home owners, architects, builders, suppliers, energy raters, building officials, mortgage brokers, appraisers, and interested citizens. “This is the first tour of a home under construction that we’ve done through the program,” says Teresa Shishim, 4CORE Program Manager. “We are very excited to be offering a first-hand learning opportunity for the local building industry”.
The Open House will take place from 12 to 4 PM and tours will take place at 12:30 and 2: 30 PM on Tuesday, September 7th. In the interest of resource efficiency, meet to carpool to the first tour at 12:00 PM at the Town Plaza Parking lot (in front of Rite Aid). A formal carpool will not be available for the 2:30 PM tour.
