Region 9 receives Excellence in Regional Transportation Award
The Region 9 Economic Development District has received a NADO (National Association of Development Organizations) Excellence in Regional Transportation Award for the Southwest Transportation Planning Region Freight Profile.
For the award-winning project, the Southwest Transportation Planning Region (TPR), administered by Region 9 EDD, worked with the Federal Highway Administration’s Colorado Division to develop a freight profile for regional decision makers to create awareness about the impacts of freight movement, routes and volume.
The freight profile was a way to identify areas of need and gaps regarding freight movement through, as well as to and from our region. The profile demonstrated many needs in terms of identifying just how much truck traffic is generated by our businesses.
The Excellence in Regional Transportation Awards showcase organizations for noteworthy projects and practices in rural transportation planning, program delivery and special initiatives. Award winners received national recognition at the 2009 National Rural Transportation Peer Learning Conference, October 28 – 30 in Savannah, Georgia.
According to NADO President Mike Norton, Executive Director of the Northwest Arkansas Planning and Development District in Harrison, Arkansas, “The Excellence in Regional Transportation Awards highlight the major impact of programs and projects like the Southwest Transportation Planning Region Freight Profile. Such initiatives are central to fostering economic growth in our nation’s communities by promoting effective transportation networks.”
NADO is a Washington, DC-based association that promotes programs and policies to strengthen local governments, communities and economies through regional cooperation, program delivery and comprehensive strategies.
