Riverhouse Children’s Center Receives Grant for Building Project

Riverhouse Children’s Center announced today that it has received a $40,000 grant from the Qualistar Colorado Capital Fund to support the building of a new operating facility on Florida Road.

Riverhouse Children’s Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, child development center located in Durango, Colorado. The center’s mission is to provide high quality care and early education services to young children. Riverhouse believes all families deserve access to exemplary childcare regardless of socioeconomic status, disability, family composition, race, ethnicity, national origin, religious beliefs or political affiliation. Riverhouse Children’s Center is celebrating its 10th year serving the children of Durango.

“This funding will enable Riverhouse to complete its building project, which will impact the children of La Plata County for years to come, provide additional employment opportunities and allow services to be expanded to additional families. An investment in high quality early childhood care and education has far reaching social and economic benefits including increased workforce productivity and reduction in use of welfare programs. Those children who have been exposed to high quality early education are more likely to be ready for Kindergarten, which sets the stage for a lifetime of learning and success,” said Kim Barker, Riverhouse Board President.

The Qualistar Colorado Capital Fund is a competitive grant opportunity available to eligible non-profit early childhood programs that wish to make permanent facility improvements tied to providing indoor and outdoor physical environments for children, families and staff. The grants are made possible through generous funding from the Boettcher Foundation and the Gates Family Foundation. Qualistar manages the grant process and awards statewide.
