San Juan Basin Health Announces Expanded Dental Services
Durango, CO – San Juan Basin Health is pleased to announce the receipt of a two year transition project grant from the Colorado Health Foundation that supports our Southwest Smile Makers Clinic in providing a dental home to patients of the new La Plata Integrated Health clinic.
This grant allows SJBH to expand its hours of service and therefore increase the number of underserved Coloradans who regularly receive integrated health care. Southwest Smile Makers can see patients of all ages for comprehensive preventive services, most restorative and also emergency oral health needs, and accepts Medicaid and CHP+.
While this grant does increase community capacity for affordable oral health care, especially for adults, more dentists are needed who accept Medicaid patients; Smile Makers is currently booked out over a month in advance.
SJBH encourages all dentists to participate in Colorado Dental Association’s campaign “Take 5” which calls on dentists to accept at least five Medicaid patients or families into their practice – https://cdaonline.org/take5.
For more information about the transition project, please contact Vanessa Boyd at (970) 335-2005. Smile Makers is located in the Commons Building, 701 Camino del Rio in Durango; for appointment inquiries call (970) 385-4480.
