Merged floral and gift shops to operate under April’s Garden moniker.

DURANGO, Colo. – A transformation is underway in Durango’s florist industry, as Schluter Floral owners Amy and David Long have acquired April’s Garden, and will merge operations under the April’s Garden moniker, as of January 1, 2009.

Schluter Floral, operating at the corner of 21st and Main Avenue, will become the new home for April’s Garden, offering expanded square footage and a more convenient location for the majority of April’s customers. All inventory and many of the suppliers for April’s gift merchandise will remain the same, and will be added to Schluter’s current inventory base. The staff of April’s will also be retained to handle the larger business volume.

“We’re thrilled to bring April’s Garden’s outstanding name and reputation as a gift destination and floral shop into our realm of offerings,” said Amy Long. “It is our hope that customers from both shops will appreciate the benefits they will receive from the combined strengths from each business, now all being offered under one roof as April’s Garden.”

The Longs originally purchased Schluter Floral, one of Durango’s longest standing businesses, in 2005. During their tenure, they relocated Schluter Floral from its 2nd Avenue address to 2075 Main Avenue, and have given the business new life – and volume – with award-winning floral designs and an expanded line of gift products.

The Longs will retire the Schluter Floral name for now, drawing on the fresh image and quality reputation of April’s Garden. April’s Garden was originally opened in 1997 in Durango by April and Chad Alpert.
