Technology and Real Estate

It’s no secret we live in an age of interconnectivity. With the internet, social media, instant communication, and more, technology has changed many aspects of our lives, including how we conduct business. Years ago, effective marketing and advertising for a real estate business primarily included newspaper advertisements, flyers, direct mail pieces, and other tangible items. In today’s world, effective business marketing must both include and factor in technology, as end users are so impacted by the technological world.

In this short blog, we want to provide an overview of how we incorporate technology into our real estate marketing, and the importance we place on this piece of real estate marketing. While it is not our sole focus for marketing, it certainly holds a dominant place in our strategy.

Our primary online presence is our website: http://thedurangoteam.com/. In recent years, we have strived to create an interactive and informative website that is ultimately user friendly. On our website, users will find information about Durango, area listings, our team, virtual tours, and more. Our technological goal is to drive activity to our website, so that those interested in La Plata County real estate will have immediate exposure to local listings, or be able to contact us for assistance. On our website, we highlight our listings with virtual tours and photos, in order to showcase our clients’ properties. With multiple domain names and ways to find us online, we are able to truly promote our listed properties online. This is so crucial: most people who are interested in real estate will look online first in this day and age, so it is imperative to operate with a functional and complete website. By utilizing Google analytics, we are also able to obtain significant information about the traffic to our website. In just the last month, we had 772 sessions on our website, and approximately 74% of those visitors were new visitors. We are also able to see that 49% of our total website visits came from the United States, and the remainder came from all over the world. We had visitors from Russia, the UK, and Brazil, as well as other countries. This information is so critical for us—and it is amazing to note that technology allows people from all over the world exposure to our clients’ properties.

In addition to our website, we maintain an active presence on several social media channels. Social media is an interesting concept. At its core, it should be a “social” tool, so the goal is to create useful information that impacts the end user. Our strategy is to incorporate some of our listing information with a featured listing of the week. However, we know that most people do not want redundant property information on these social media sites. They want valuable and applicable information. Therefore, we include local area information, lifestyle blogs about the Durango area, real estate news, home improvement tips, decorating trends and more. Our goal is to engage the end user. This information may be helpful for our current clients, or for those considering real estate purchases or sales in the future. It also drives traffic to our website (again, the “home base” for our clients’ information, and exposure to listings). We tailor our social media updates to each specific channel. Twitter is updated several times per day, whereas LinkedIn is typically updated one time per day, based on end users and the demographics of each. Our goal is to remain relevant and applicable for those who follow us on our social media outlets. We currently have a presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Plus, and Pinterest. Please follow us on these channels, as we hope to provide helpful information and resources for you!

While this is just a brief overview as to our online strategy, we hope the explanation will provide some understanding as to the attention we place on this ever-expanding world of technology. As always, please feel free to reach out to our team for further details regarding our marketing strategies online.
