Monthly informational meeting set for Nov. 8 to be organized by BID

Durango, CO – The Durango Business Improvement District (BID) this month (November) assumes coordination of the monthly information meetings formerly known as What’s Up Downtown. Now to be called “BID Coffee & Conversation” (BCC), the next meeting is set for Friday, Nov.8, 2013, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Durango City Hall. All BID constituents, including those on North Main, are encouraged to attend.

What’s Up Downtown was launched by the City’s Downtown Business Development Manager Bob Kunkel, and has been held for 120 consecutive months on the second Friday. Realigned responsibilities for City staff left a need for new leadership for the meeting. Seeing the meeting more appropriately aligned with the BID, Executive Director Tim Walsworth took on the task.

“It’s been an effective way to reach community members and merchants,” said Walsworth. “So we want to keep it going, but we want it to be more of a ‘dialogue.’ We’re going to be there to not only to pass on information to our constituents, but to listen as well – What are their concerns? What ideas do they have to improve a situation? How can BID help make business better?”

Each meeting will also have a timely topic for discussion, and November’s meeting will focus on the upcoming holiday season including the HOLiDAZZLE and Noel Night partnership, tips for creating a HOLiDAZZLE event, gift drawings, window decorating, update on Singing With Santa, tips for a successful Noel Night/HOLiDAZZLE from BID and merchants in attendance and more.

Future meeting focus could include, in example, working with the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, wellness programs, analysis of sales and lodgers tax collections, and Walsworth is open to suggestions.

“Much of what the BID is about – what it can do effectively – is communication,” said Walsworth. “The better the communication, the stronger our community.”
