2009 Parade of Homes Winners

The 2009 Durango Parade of Homes, an annual event sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado (HBASC) and Platinum Sponsor BuzzTown.com, drew over 1,500 participants for the fall home tour.  Cindy Smart, of Smart Enterprises, was the 2009 Parade of Homes Chairperson.  The HBASC held a gala awards dinner where Cindy Smart presented the 2009 Durango Parade of Homes winners.  Habitat for Humanity is a charity partner of the HBASC and had a home entered in the event.  Jordan House received the Community Service Award given to Four Corners Solar for their generous donation and installation of solar equipment at the Habitat for Humanity Home.

Following is a complete list of winners:

Peoples Choice Award:

Kogan Builders Inc., owned by Alix Kogan, won the 2009 Parade of Homes People’s Choice Award for the entry at 86 Roble Way in the Shenandoah subdivision.  The privately-owned home is a single level, mountain style ranch home with incredible views of Lake Nighthorse and the surrounding mountains.  The Kogan Builder’s design team worked closely with the owners to implement their concept of a “large porch with a house attached.”  This award represents the votes of those who attended the Parade of Homes and voted for their favorite entry.

Judges’ Selection Awards:

Summit Custom Homes, owned by Janet and Ron Enge, was named First Place Winner of the Judges’ Selection of the Parade.  The house is located at 408 Engineer Drive, near Durango Mountain Resort.  This home garners classic mountain architecture, elements of pioneer history and contemporary rocky mountain style that make this a perfect family retreat.  The home is available for sale and includes amenities offered by Durango Mountain Resort and Properties.  Contact Ron Enge at 970/259-8512.

Second Place in the Judges’ Selection was the Shenandoah House by Kogan Builders Inc which is described above.

Third Place for the Judges’ Selection was a home built by Mat Robbins and Bill Rohrich of Lorien Timberframes.    The craftsmen of Lorien Timberframes designed and built this unique timberframe home to be a combination of traditional building styles and modern environmentally friendly technology.  The home’s central feature is the sustainably harvested red and white oak frame.  Each timber was hand-cut in their shop and then assembled on site using only time tested mortise and tenon joinery and hickory pegs. This beautiful home is located in Edgemont Highlands and is for sale.   Contact Matt at 970/769-7483 for information.

The Judges’ Selection Awards are determined by a peer panel of judges who rate various craftsmanship attributes of the homes on a standardized scale.

Prize Winners:

For sixth consecutive year, the HBASC held a drawing for two major prizes.  A hot tub donated by Smart Enterprises was won by Cherie Morris and a wall bed donated by Closets Plus was won by Jennifer Pittman.

Next year will be the seventh Durango Parade of Homes.  The Parade of Homes will be held the second and third weekends in September 2010.
