The four LaPlata County Rotary Clubs with support from co-sponsors Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Four Corners Broadcasting, Momentum Energy Group and Travelhost Magazine raced, avalanche style, 116 big, bright and bouncy red fitness balls at Durango Mountain Resort in Durango on February 6, 2010 to benefit the community.

Durango, CO. The 8th annual Wells Fargo Bank’s RED BALL EXPRESS.
The four LaPlata County Rotary Clubs with support from co-sponsors Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Four Corners Broadcasting, Momentum Energy Group and Travelhost Magazine raced, avalanche style, 116 big, bright and bouncy red fitness balls at Durango Mountain Resort in Durango on February 6, 2010 to benefit the community.
The event went off at 4:00pm after a long day of setup and celebration by the members of the Rotary Clubs. This charitable race is for the direct benefit of numerous non profit community organizations in the area and Rotary.
Players adopted two numbered balls for a donation of five dollars per entry. The Grand Prize was $5,000 cash, Second Prize was $2000.00 and a Third prize of $1,000 were given away. The winner of the $5,000.00 was Britney Hanson of Durango.
For the fourth year, NASTAR racing on the slopes of Durango Mountain Resort was held as a supplement to the fund raiser and fun. Beginning at 11:00 am and racing until about 1:30 pm, all organizations and clubs with 5 or more racers competed for medals trophies and bragging rights. The best time of the fastest 5 from each team determined the winner. Cost was $10.00 per racer with $5.00 going
to the Red Ball Express proceeds. Categories included family, non- profit organizations, service clubs and Rotary Clubs. A traveling trophy was presented to the Rotary Club from District 5470, that comprises the southern half of Colorado, with the best composite time. This year’s winner was Pine River Centennial Rotary Club of Bayfield for the third consecutive year.
The Red Ball Express is now in its eighth year. Over the eight years the event has raised over $250,000 for the community. This year over 13 non-profit organizations took part in selling tickets. Each non-profit retains $3.75 for each $5.00 ticket sold.
Wells Fargo Bank is the Title Sponsor and along with other co-sponsors, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Momentum energy Group and Travelhost Magazine covered all expenses and 100% of the prize money so donations will benefit the charities and the efforts of the Rotary Clubs in the area.
