Durango, CO – The Durango-La Plata County Airport started construction on the general aviation parking apron rehabilitation project this week.  The first phase will rehabilitate the north portion of the apron and the vehicle service road.  Aircraft parking will be limited during this phase.  Phase II, which will reconstruct the southern half of the apron, will begin August 14.  The closure of this area will last from August 14 to September 23 and aircraft access to the storage hangars in this area will not be possible during this phase.   This project was partially funded with $2 million dollars of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.  The remaining $1 million dollars was provided under the Airport Improvement Program administered by the Federal Aviation Administration.

This construction is in addition to the runway gradient repair and taxiway extension project that will begin on July 16.  On July 21, the runway at the airport will close from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm as a part of the construction.  It will close again on August 25 in order to reopen for full operations.

Roadway construction continues with the concrete walkways being installed in front of the terminal building.  Paving for the first phase is scheduled for the week of July 20.
