Bomb Threat Received This Morning

Durango, CO – At 9:58 this morning, Central Dispatch received an anonymous bomb threat against the “Courthouse,” Fort Lewis College, Miller Middle School, and Durango High School.  Law enforcement officials are working with agency officials to conduct searches of each of the buildings.  Because the courthouse named was non-specific, law enforcement has notified all judicial buildings.

Durango School District has evacuated Miller Middle School students to the Durango Recreation Center and Durango High School students to the La Plata County Fairgrounds.  Students will be released to parents at both locations with proper identification.  Alerts have already been sent to 9-R parents.  Durango School District will be updating its website at  www.durango.k12.co.us with the latest information.  Parents may also call 247-5411, ext. 2 for information. All other 9-R schools are currently in “soft lockdown,” which means that external doors are locked to prevent unauthorized entry.

La Plata County has closed the County Courthouse building at noon and it will not reopen today.

Fort Lewis College has evacuated its campus, effective immediately, and will not reopen today.   For information about Fort Lewis College, please visit the website at www.fortlewis.edu.
