Durango, COThe City of Durango is undertaking a redesign and upgrade of its downtown pedestrian areas, including sidewalks, curbs, crossings and streetscapes. The project will begin with a comprehensive design for the enhancement of downtown Durango. The scope of the project includes design of the public right of way along Main Avenue from 5th Street to 14th Street and side streets from Narrow Gauge Avenue to the alley between Main and East Second Ave. Sidewalk replacement, pedestrian amenities, street lighting and general safety improvements will be considered.

The City has contracted the services of Walzak Design Resources to lead the project through the design phase, at a cost to the City of $149,637. The project kick-off date is August 1, and the final design is expected to be completed by December. In 2008, the construction phase of the project will begin.

During the analysis and design process, there will be several opportunities for the public to view and comment on design alternatives. The City of Durango and Walzak Design Resources will provide notice to the public of these opportunities, and regular updates will be posted to the  project website once it goes live.
