City Plans for Snow Removal in Downtown Area
City Plans for Snow Removal in Downtown Area
Durango, CO – City street crews have been plowing snow around the clock for the past two days to keep city streets clear. Yesterday’s snowstorm has left piles of snow in the downtown area.
In preparation for tomorrow evening’s Noel Night, street crews will be hauling snow from the downtown area beginning tonight. Businesses in the downtown area are encouraged to shovel their sidewalks into the street this afternoon so that crews can remove as much snow as possible. In addition, the City would like to remind motorists that there is no parking in the downtown area between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Because snowplow crews will be clearing the roadway from curb to curb, any vehicle parked in a restricted zone during those hours will be towed away at the owner’s expense.
In order to help with snow removal efforts, the City requests that residents:
- Blow or shovel snow onto lawns or landscaped area, but not onto the streets or sidewalks
- Keep drainage ways free of snow and ice. When the snow begins to melt it needs to drain to the river before it refreezes and causes ice on the streets.
- Keep fire hydrants, gas meters, and other utilities free from accumulated snow and visible to plow drivers.
- Move vehicles on the streets every 24 hours to allow plows to keep the streets clear.
