Commissioner Wally White to attend White House Conference on Conservation


Durango, CO:  While participating in the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2012 Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. next month, La Plata County Commissioner Wally White has been invited to attend a White House Conference on Conservation: “Growing America’s Outdoor Heritage and Economy” on March 2, 2012 at the U.S. Department of Interior. This conference is by invitation only and will be attended by Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality; Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior; Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture; Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; and Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works).

Commissioner White served on the NACo Public Lands Steering Committee from 2007 to 2012 and also serves on the Bureau of Reclamation’s Southwest Resource Advisory Council. At Colorado Counties, Inc., he chaired the Land Use and Natural Resources Steering Committee and was a member of the Public Lands Steering Committee. Commissioner White is also on the board of the Mountain Studies Institute and is a member of the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission.

Commissioner White declared it an honor to be invited to this event. “I have a great interest in conservation issues and the economic benefits associated with protecting our public lands. I am looking forward to the discussions with our Federal officials,” said Commissioner White.
