Crepes: Street Food for the Soul

Imagine yourself in a small French village, sitting at a street-side table, enjoying a light, delicious and freshly prepared meal. You’re surrounded by bright, beautiful flowers, the sunshine is casting it’s warm rays upon you as passer-bys are longingly observing your last savored bites…
You won’t have to imagine it for long, it’s coming to Durango. Michel Poumay, previous owner and chef of Chez Grand-Mère, has opened Michel’s Corner, Authentic Crêpes Etc. in downtown Durango. Michel’s Corner offers an incredible variety of freshly prepared crêpes, both sweet and savory. This spring, Poumay’s vision of a street-side cafe will come to life. He plans to set up tables and couches in front of his beautiful streetcart, created by Amish builders from his own design. “I’ve always visualized something like this for Durango, and the timing for me was just right,” says Poumay.
Chez Grand-Mère served Poumay well, however, he was ready for a change from the toll of the all consuming, high stress, and perfection of fine dining. “I want something fun, I want to enjoy the people and I want to create unusual combinations that satisfy people’s cravings, but are affordable- and still good for them- good for the soul.” Good for the soul is right. Try the classic ham, gruyere, tomato and mustard crêpe with a cup of hot cider. The first bite is…. ahh… much like the feeling you get after consuming a nice hoppy beer. So amazing as it travels through every part of your body. Or, opt for a traditional crêpe with banana, chocolate, and almonds- it’s the perfect crêpe to cure a sweet tooth. Whatever you choose, you’ll be back for more because it’s just so delicious. “I have to try them all!” exclaimed a patron and downtown realtor.
Etc., This summer Michel’s Corner will also offer different specials like fresh ahi tuna salad, peel and eat shrimp or quiche with a side salad. Don’t wait ’til summer though. Michel’s Corner is on the corner of 6th and Main and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10a-5p (or so). Michel’s Corner is going to be a Durango favorite, try it for yourself, we think you’ll agree.
