“Legend and History”

Durango, CO – True West Railfest is the perfect mix of legend and history. “History may be a compilation of words, objects, and the processes, but it translates into the human character traits of strength, courage, creativity, perseverance, morality, and the ability to achieve greatness.” These are the words of D&SNG owner Al Harper to explain his devotion to historic preservation and community involvement that are the basis for True West Railfest.

The D&SNG railroad is proud to join True West magazine to celebrate and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the movie “Tombstone”.

TRUE WEST Magazine named Durango, Colorado as one of the top ten western communities in the United States in 2011.

The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad wishes to express our sincere thanks to our sponsors, True West Magazine, San Juan Regional Medical Center, the historic Strater Hotel, the Henry Strater TheatRE and First National Bank of Durango for their support of our mission of preserving and celebrating our western heritage and agricultural and railroading history.Without the support of these fine businesses, the continuing tradition of Railfest would not be possible.

The support of the sponsors and railroad volunteers will benefit the Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores, the Durango Railroad Historical Society, the La Plata Open Space Conservancy, Durango Farmer’s Market, and the Animas Museum. All these organizations are crucial to preserving the knowledge and artifacts of our American Western way of life.
