District 1 Downtown Sidewalk Improvement Begins

Durango, CO –   The Downtown Sidewalk Improvement Project for District 1 begins today.  Construction will run through November 25th, and then be suspended for the winter months, beginning again in March 2010.  The project includes the removal and replacement of various downtown sidewalks in the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Avenue and from Narrow Gauge to alley between Main Avenue and 2nd Street.  The project also includes new street lighting, new electrical, irrigation, and fiber optic lines.  One half of Main Avenue will be closed at a time to allow for the removal and replacement of sidewalks along with pavement patching.  While there will be two-way traffic in the project area, only one lane of traffic will be open on the side that crews are working.  Colarelli Construction is under contract with the City for this project.
