Downtown Sidewalk Project Resumes

Durango, CO –     Construction on the downtown sidewalk improvement project resumed this week.  The east side of the 600 block of Main Avenue will be completed first, followed by the west side of the same block.  Once work is completed in the 600 block, crews will begin work in the 500 block of Main Avenue.  One half of Main Avenue will be closed at times to allow for the removal and replacement of sidewalks along with pavement patching.  Two-way traffic will be maintained and traffic control will be in place for the duration of the project. All shops will remain open continuously for the duration of the project.

In addition to the sidewalk improvements, new tree grates and new electric, irrigation, and fiber optic lines are being installed. The contractor, Colarelli Construction, is working with the City, store owners, and merchants to minimize disruption to businesses and pedestrians during the construction period.  Work is expected to be complete by the first week in May.

This construction period will complete the first of four phases of the Downtown Sidewalk Improvements project with an additional phase to be completed in the coming years, with improvements extending up to 14th Street.
