Durango, CO –   At approximately 11:55 this morning, Durango police officers, in cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Thomas P. Helm, 60 of Durango, after Helm arrived at Greenmount Cemetery expecting to encounter a 14-year-old boy to engage in sexual activity.   He was taken into custody without incident.

Police received information that Helm was using a social networking page to attract young boys.  An investigator posing as an underage boy contacted Helm and after several correspondences, Helm solicited the “youth” for sex.

Officers, with the assistance of La Plata County Sheriff Deputies, served a warrant on Helm’s home and confiscated several computers as evidence.

Helm was transported to La Plata County Jail and booked on a no bond hold for suspicion of Internet Luring of a Child, a class 4 felony.

The Durango Police Department is concerned that there may be additional victims in our community and would encourage anyone with information to contact Investigator Cindi Clay at 375-4738.
