Durango Police Arrest Bank Robber
Today the Durango Police Department and the Durango office of the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested Chase B. Gardner, a 19-year-old Fort LewisCollege student, for a series of local bank robberies and attempted bank robberies that have occurred since last December:
- December 7, 2009 – main branch of the First National Bank of Durango, located at 259 W 9th Street
- March 4, 2010 – Vectra Bank, located at 1101 E 2nd Avenue
- April 1, 2010 – Alpine Bank, located at 1099 Main Avenue
- April 1, 2010 – Bank of Colorado, located at 1199 Main Avenue
The multi-agency investigation that culminated with the search of Gardner’s home and the recovery of evidence linking Gardner to the series of robberies was conducted jointly by the Durango Police Department and the FBI, with assistance from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Ignacio Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
Gardner was taken into custody by the FBI and is currently being held in La Plata County Jail.
