Durango, CO – Two special displays are currently featured in the Children’s Room of the Durango Public Library during December.
A whimsical Christmas tree decorated with glass ornaments depicting characters in children’s literature is adorning the Storytime Room. The collection belongs to local residents, Dennis and Marian Pierce, who assembled the tree for display at the library. The beautiful ornaments include characters from nursery rhymes, fairy tales, Alice in Wonderland, and The Wizard of Oz.
The other display is a Historical Timeline of Children’s Literature and the World from 1200 AD- 2009 AD. This poster display was designed by Fort Lewis College students in the Children’s Literature classes of Kris Greer and Gene Taylor. The Timeline depicts books and world events occurring at the time the books were written. It’s a fascinating display.
“Fired Up Stories” is returning to the Durango Public Library on Friday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Storytime Room. Firefighters with Durango Fire and Rescue will read stories featuring fire and fire safety. Kids will have the opportunity to interact with fire equipment and props. “Fired Up Stories” is an ongoing program, presented on the second Friday of each month at 10:30. All kids and their caregivers are welcome to attend these popular and informative programs.
