FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Available for La Plata County Residents
FEMA’S National Flood Insurance “Preferred Risk Policy Extension” Available for La Plata County Residents
Durango, Co – The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National
Flood Insurance Program has introduced a new tool called the Preferred Risk
Policy (PRP) Extension to benefit buildings that have been impacted by new
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) revisions. La Plata County received flood
insurance map revisions on August 19, 2010 and residents newly placed in a
high risk flood zone may qualify for a two-year preferred risk policy, which offers a considerable savings to policyholders.
FEMA will be holding an outreach meeting for residents to ask questions specific to their property and learn a bit more about the PRP Extension. The PRP Extension assists building owners who have been placed in a high risk flood zone or SFHA (Special Flood Hazard Area) for the first time. The Preferred Risk Policy Extension will only be available through August 19, 2013 to La Plata County property owners with buildings that have been remapped into a high risk flood zone for the first time. Now is the time for La Plata county residents to meet with FEMA to better understand the map revisions and how residents can qualify for the PRP Extension.
