Fiesta on the Mesa 2009 kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month at Fort Lewis College

DURANGO- One of Fort Lewis College’s most popular events is back for another year: Fiesta on the Mesa.

El Centro de Muchos Colores, Fort Lewis College’s Hispano center, invites the campus and community to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month at the 5th annual Fiesta on the Mesa. The celebration begins Tuesday, September 15 from 5-7 p.m. in the FLC Amphitheatre, or the Student Union River Rock Café, if it rains.

This year, Fiesta on the Mesa will bring two big musical headliners to campus. All the way from Albuquerque, mariachi entertainer Yolanda Pinela will serenade with her beautiful voice. Also performing will be the popular group Anexo Al Norte, who are in high demand throughout the Southwest.

Back for another year at the Fiesta will be the always entertaining Baile Folklorico de Durango dance troupe and the Mariachi de Durango group.

And let’s not forget about the food. A taco and salsa bar, gazpacho soup and a selection of traditional Hispanic deserts will be among the delicious choices served.

The Fiesta is free to all FLC students, faculty and staff with student ID. For guests not affiliated with the College and community members, the meal price will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under the age of 10. Tickets are available at the event.

Fiesta on the Mesa is sponsored by El Centro de Muchos Colores, the FLC Office of Student Affairs, Sodexho, the FLC Leadership Center, and the FLC Residents on Campus Association.

For more information, contact El Centro at 247-7654 or visit them in Reed Library, Rm. 156A.
