Fort Lewis College hosting TEDx conference aimed at “ideas worth spreading”

DURANGO, CO – In the spirit of sharing “ideas worth spreading,” Fort Lewis College will be hosting a TEDx conference on Saturday, April 3, 2010. The conference will feature presentations from students, professors and professionals on a variety of topics, from the war in Iraq to health issues to poetry. The presentations will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run through 7 p.m. in the Fort Lewis College Student Union, Vallecito Room.

Tickets for the conference are a $50 donation that benefits the East Africa Project (http://www.easpdurango.org/), a student-led initiative to develop sustainable communities in Africa. Visit http://www.eventbrite.com/event/587080975 or call (619) 977-1114 for more information on the TEDx conference.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and the “x” means that this is an independently organized TED event. TED is a nonprofit organization that began in 1984 and assists groups in putting on conferences like the one at Fort Lewis College.

Among the presenters at the TEDx conference will be Tom Cheatham, a former NBC news correspondent, who will speak on oppression and poverty. From Fort Lewis College, Colorado Professor of the Year Dr. Ron Estler will give a lecture entitled “Visual Inspirations from Nature for Re-search Directions.”
