High Noon Rotary Announces Scholarships
Durango High Noon Rotary Club has presented seven area students with scholarships totaling $9,500.00 for the upcoming school year , President Mark Prouty announced this week.
Committee Co-Chairwoman Barbara Stine expressed that the decision on which of the 19 candidates to award was not an easy one to make. “The caliber of students and the amount of hard work they represent makes this a very difficult task. There are some really great citizens coming through our school system. The committee had to make some very hard choices.”
Awarded One Thousand dollar scholarships for college were:
$1000, Kendall Lloyd, Durango High School
$1000, Jake Coutlee, Durango High School
$1000, Alicia Sapa, Bayfield High School
$1000, Venicia Sala, Ignacio High School
Awarded the Vocational Studies Scholarship in the amount of $1,500: Kerri Horvath, DHS
Awarded Fifteen Hundred dollars for the High School Interact Scholarship:
Ariel Mallett -Durango High School
In addition to the awards presented by High Noon Rotary, an additional scholarship for $3500 was administered by the club on behalf of Colorado Grand Car Rally that made a stop in Durango last summer. Club members helped host a lunch for the rally. The rally organizers asked that club members screen candidates with the assistance of local officials.
City Manager Ron Le Blanc and Chief of Police David Felice participated in the selection process.
The Colorado Grand Scholarship was awarded to Katherine Stone, Durango High School.
