In-Kind Donations Near $300,000 from Local Contractors for Durango Discovery Museum Building Plans
Durango, CO March 19, 2010-With the leadership of Colarelli Construction, general contractor for the Phase II remodel at the Powerhouse, in-kind donations of close to $300,000 have been pledged toward the construction of the Durango Discovery Museum.
Claire Bradshaw, executive director of the museum says, “We are so impressed with Colarelli Construction, and their local project manager, Shawn Slater, and owner, Vince Colarelli. Colarelli has gone above and beyond in their efforts to bring donations to our project. In the worst economy in decades, Colarelli Construction has brought to the table almost $300,000 donations from the local trades and more are in the works. This outpouring of support is testament to our generous community, which has been steadfast in supporting the Discovery Museum.”
Gary Derck, CEO of Durango Mountain Resort, recently donated two five-ton mechanical roof top units that will be used for heating and cooling. Animas Valley Construction has donated concrete curb and gutter pavers, Building Specialties has donated doors, frames, hardware and finish work, Durango Automatic Fires has donated fire sprinklers, and Phillips Electric has donated electrical work. While there are too many donors to list here, the growing list will be available at www.durangodiscovery.org soon.
The museum’s Phase II project will include remodeling the two buildings currently on the 1333 Camino Del Rio site and creating a river-facing public plaza around the existing smokestack, all to accommodate the planned interactive science center, workshops, multi-purpose space, and offices set to this year. Thanks to community support, the project continues to be on target.
