Wreaking havoc on the recently cleaned house and testing mom and dad’s patience only lasts so long! Luckily, we live in a place that offers so many activities for kiddos. Try one of these winter programs that are sure to give mom and dad a break…. the kids probably need one too!

Stay Warm Without the Layers, Stay Inside!

Durango Recreation Center- Offers classes on everything from ballet to yoga for kids of all ages. They also have an incredible aquatics area, a climbing wall, table games and more.

 

Durango Arts Center- Art allows kids to use their imagination and see things in a new way. DAC offers a variety of kids programs that allow them to express themselves.  Visit durangoarts.org to find a program.

 

Chapman Hill- An in town ski and skate facility that offers excellent ice skating, ice hockey, and even downhill skiing.

 

Discovery Museum- Offers many kinds of programs for all ages; preschool gatherings at the museum, elementary age “School’s Out” days for 5 to 9 year olds, Parents Night Out evenings once a month for children who are potty trained, parenting programs, and cultural programs during the holidays. Go Play, Go Outside!

Purgatory- Just north of town, kids can work on their turns while hitting the slopes with certified ski and snowboard instructors. Or, just across the way, they can enroll in a cross country or skate skiing clinic.  durangomountainresort.com

 

San Juan National Forest/Colorado Trail/Horse Gulch/Durango Mountain Park- If you are an outdoorsy family, get the right gear on and head out for a hike, a snowshoe, or a nature tour. Nothing like sunshine, fresh air and miles of endless exploration to cure the indoor blues.
