LA PLATA COUNTY AND THE TOWN OF BAYFIELD TO OPEN NEW COUNTY ROAD 501 BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN PATH
Durango, CO – La Plata County, the Town of Bayfield, and the Colorado Department of Transportation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. for the recently completed pedestrian and bicycle path. The shared-use path begins just north of the Bayfield Center Drive round-about on County Road 501 and ends just south of the Dove Ranch subdivision, a distance of 0.75 miles.
This project was the result of an intergovernmental agreement between La Plata County and the Town of Bayfield and a Transportation Enhancement Grant application that was submitted to the Colorado Department of Transportation in May of 2006. The completion of this project provides a direct connection from the Bayfield High School located on County Road 501 to the system of paths currently owned and maintained by the Town of Bayfield.
Federal funding was provided by a Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant of $57,067 and $220,342 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), both administered by CDOT. The Town of Bayfield contributed $35,000, and the remainder of the project funding and project management was provided by La Plata County. The project design was completed by Loris and Associates at a cost of $94,000 and was constructed by CRG Construction, Inc. at a cost of approximately $340,000.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony, which will be held near the south end of the path, just north of the Bayfield Center Drive round-about on County Road 501, next to the ARRA sign. For additional information, please call 970-382-6210.
