La Plata County Seeks Volunteers to Serve on Citizens Working Group for the Comprehensive Plan Update

La Plata County began a Comprehensive Plan Update process in July 2009. Since that time, there has been a citizen group of approximately 16 members working together to help guide the Comprehensive Planning process. As the process enters the final phase, the need has been identified to slightly expand the Working Group membership. Specifically, La Plata County is seeking individuals who can exhibit one or more of the following:

  • Have participated in the Comprehensive Plan Update process;
  • Have experience in economic or business development;
  • Have an understanding of land use processes (here and elsewhere) or have experience in planning and implementing development projects.
  • Special consideration will be given to individuals who reside on the Eastern side of La Plata County (e.g., Bayfield, Vallecito, and Ignacio).

The Working Group generally meets twice monthly on the first and third Monday from 4:00-6:30 p.m.

The goals of the Working Group are to:

  • Allow participants to gain a better understanding of ideas and concerns of others.
  • Identify common themes and areas of agreement with regards to land use planning in La Plata County.
  • Through consensus, work towards developing goal and strategy recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan elements.
  • To identify areas of agreement and disagreement among community stakeholders and the working group with regards to county planning solutions.
  • To generate options that will receive broad community support and identify areas where agreement can be reached.

The call for applicants will be open until November 19th. Please submit your letter of interest & qualifications (no more than one page) to Jason Meininger at [email protected].

For additional information, please contact Jason Meininger, La Plata County’s Long Range Planner at (970) 382-6267.
