La Plata Electric warns of potential impersonator
Community members asked to request photo identification
DURANGO, Colo. – La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) representatives are asking local residents to be alert for an individual going door-to-door impersonating an LPEA employee and soliciting some type of sales.
An incident was reported Oct. 6 in the Pagosa Springs area involving a 30-something man falsely claiming to be an LPEA employee. The man, who may also have had an accomplice, reportedly asked to enter a home at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 to discuss sales of a product or service. He was denied admittance.
“It is very, very rare that an LPEA employee would be knocking on anyone’s door unsolicited at night, and we don’t go door-to-door selling anything,” said Steve Gregg, manager of operations. “Our employees all have photo identification badges, so if someone does come to your door stating they’re from LPEA, ask for their ID, and if they don’t produce it, close the door and call the authorities.”
LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its nearly 30,000 members with more than 40,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible.
