Leadership La Plata selects 2008-2009 Class
DURANGO, Colo. – Leadership La Plata (LLP), the diverse, all-volunteer organization designed to educate and train community leaders from throughout the county, has announced selection of the 2008-2009 class.
The LLP Selection Committee – comprised of Sheryl Ayers, Cissy Anderson, David Burke, Pam Patton and Buck Skillen – selected 18 candidates from a highly qualified field of dynamic individuals. Among this year’s classmates are Jenn Bartlett (Chief Professional Officer- Southern Ute Indian Tribe Boys and Girls Club), Ron Borrego (Principal Engineer, Geomatrix Consultants), Rhonda Brown (Owner, Custom Animal Services), Barbara Bustillos Cogswell (Administration, SUCAP/Peaceful Spirit), Barb Gysel (9-R Educator, retired), and Neil Hannum (Owner, Creative Conspiracy).
Joining them, this year’s class also includes Corey Sue Hutchinson (Owner, Aqua Hab Aquatic), Martha Johnson (Assistant Director, LPC Dept. of Human Services), Jeanine Justice (Coordinator, Healthy Lifestyle La Plata Coalition), Foxie Mason (Library Consultant/University Professor), Janet Mosher (Recreation Manager, SunUte Community Center) and Carolyn Jones Newbold (Director of Quality/Education, Mercy Medical Center)
Rounding out the diverse class are Darrin Parmenter (Horticulturist, CSU Extension), Steve Pease (Owner, Pease Financial Group), Kerry Petranek (General Manager/CEO, StoneAge), Michelle Rabouin (President, Sylvain/DuBois LLC), Kory Samson (Sales/Marketing Coordinator, Gateway Reservations) and Jill Wark (Marketing/Training Director, Bank of Colorado).
Now in its 21st year in La Plata County, LLP provides leadership skills training and broad-based education in all facets of the community. More than 300 LLP graduates are currently engaged in community leadership roles, from business and local government to non-profit agencies.
A program of the Durango Chamber of Commerce, LLP is sustained by all-volunteer committees. Steering Committee members for 2008-2009 include, Indiana Reed, chair; Sheryl Ayers, Beth Christie, Diane Becket, Melissa Caskey, Stan Crapo, Wanda Ellingson, Mary Havran, Carson Jones, Joel Jones, Loryn Kasten, Tara Kiene, Lynn Morrow Kitch, Dennis Lum, Bruce Moss, Ron Pevny and Dave Schranck and representing the Durango Chamber of Commerce, Jack Llewellyn and Rita Simon.
