Police Arrest Barricaded Suspect

Durango, CO: At approximately 4:24 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Durango Police attempted to serve an arrest warrant at 320 Jenkins Ranch Road. The arrest warrant was issued to Timothy R. Emberson for felony vehicular alluding that had occurred on Monday night. Emberson is described as a 28-year-old white male, 6’2″ in height, approximately 180 pounds with light brown hair and blue eyes. Emberson has a criminal history and was considered armed and dangerous.

At approximately 6:27 p.m., 244 emergency notification phone calls went out to residents along Jenkins Ranch Road and the surrounding area, notifying them that the Durango Police Department had closed Jenkins Ranch Road between Ophir Drive and Jenkins Court and asking residents to remain in their homes because of a barricaded suspect at 320 Jenkins Ranch Road.

Officers attempted repeatedly to establish contact with Emberson via a hostage negotiation telephone and loudspeaker, but Emberson did not respond. Durango Police used a combination of tear gas and “noise-flash diversion” devices in an attempt to get Emberson to surrender.

At 11:05 p.m., officers forced entry into the residence and at 11:20 p.m. Emberson surrendered to police, was taken into custody and was booked into La Plata County Jail. Another emergency notification call went out at approximately 12:10 a.m. notifying residents that Emberson was in custody and they could return to their homes.
