Update on Florida Road Reconstruction Project
Update on Florida Road Reconstruction Project
Durango, CO – The City of Durango anticipates resuming the Florida Road Reconstruction Project on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. During construction, Florida Road between East Animas Road and East 3rd Avenue will be limited to one-way inbound (westerly) traffic only. Traffic wishing to travel outbound (easterly) will be detoured via 32nd Street to East Animas Road. Traffic control measures will be in place to direct traffic through and detour around the construction. Motorists are encouraged to drive at an appropriate speed and obey the traffic signs.
In preparation for this next step, crews have been installing a 42″ storm drain pipeline along Holly Avenue from 32nd Street to 31st Street, forcing partial road closures at times.
Funding for the $14.8 million project is provided by the 2008 voter approved bond issue with bond payments being made from the existing 2A tax fund. Concrete Express Incorporated is currently under contract with the City of Durango to construct the roadway. When completed, this project will provide 5-foot wide concrete bike lanes on both sides of the roadway, a 10-foot wide sidewalk on the north side of the roadway, and a signalized pedestrian crossing, offering safer transportation for cyclists and pedestrians. The completed project will also make vehicle travel safer with center left turn lanes, a traffic roundabout at the intersection of Riverview Drive, and a traffic signal at the intersection of North College Drive. Aesthetic improvements include landscaping trees bordering the roadway, and center landscape islands. The project is anticipated to be complete the end of 2010.
